Indonesia raises the agenda of Agriculture, Digital and Inclusive Business

The Argentine Presidency held its first G20 Sherpa meeting in Bariloche, Argentina on December 14-16, 2017. The meeting was opened by the Argentine Foreign Minister, Jorge Faurie, who addressed the G20's main themes and priorities under the Argentine Presidency.     The Argentine Presidency has the theme "Building Consensus for Fair and Sustainable Development" and will carry three main priorities, namely (i) future of work, (ii) infrastructure for development, and (iii) food production in the global value chain. In addition, the Argentine Presidency will also actively voice the interests of developing countries and seek concrete G20 results that have a direct impact on society.    Indonesia welcomed and supported the Argentine Presidency's main themes and priorities. In some of its interventions, Sherpa G20 Indonesia, Dr. Rizal Lukman, said that in general Argentina's priorities are aligned with Indonesia's national interests. Specifically, Sherpa Indonesia raised the importance of the G20 to facilitate MSMEs in the agricultural sector to be integrated with Global Value Chains (GVCs).    In addition, it also emphasized the role of digital technology in efforts to economic equality and increase people's income. For this reason, the G20 needs to encourage cooperation in vocational education and training so that the community can improve their capabilities and digital literacy and in turn can make positive use of technological transformation.    In the session discussing the Development agenda, Sherpa G20 Indonesia stressed that the Presidency's plan to raise the aspect of inclusive business needs to involve all sectors, including B20 which contains business people from G20 member countries. Indonesia hopes that B20 can also provide practical recommendations in an effort to create inclusive business activities.     The 1st G20 Sherpa Meeting consists of 6 (six) sessions: (i) world economy and overview of finance track; (ii) employment, education and digital economy; (iii) energy and climate change; (iv) agriculture, trade and investment; (v) development; and (vi) anti corruption, health. Regarding the next activity plan, the Presidency said that the 2nd Sherpa meeting will be held on 2-4 May 2018, in Ushuaia, Argentina. The PTM that will be implemented include PTM Digital Economy, PTM Agriculture, PTM Employment, PTM Education, PTM Energy, PTM Health, PTM Trade, and PTM Overseas. (5 / VII).
